When I first talked to Colton, we sat at Starbucks for over an hour and a half. We talked and chatted. We just clicked! Our engagement session was AMAZING and I was thrilled to death to get started on the wedding.
Valerie Valdez was our second shooter for the day and she was AMAZING! She is super sweet and just a great person to be around. Check out her blog when you get a chance! http://www.valerievaldezphotography.com
In all honesty, I should have asked Jessica to be in the wedding. She was more helpful and cared more than my bridesmaids. My dress was loose and my MOH said it couldn’t be cinched in anymore. Jessica came and took over! She pulled and what do you know cinched in tons more! She is really a honest and caring person who just radiates with happiness. Definitely someone who you want to have around :)
I’m constantly blown away by Colton. He is such a great person who cares about the couple. I don’t know how I would have done it without him. He has stood up for me when I wasn’t able to and has been there for me through everything.
I can’t say enough about how much I LOVED working with SixFourteen Photography! They are constantly blowing me away with their amazing work. My wedding wouldn’t have been the same with out them! They are seriously some of my favorite people and I can’t wait to work with them some more on my Trash the Dress :)

A Bridal Blossom- A+++
I met Nancy at The Knot Bridal Beauty Event. If you went, she is that one who gave out the pink hangers. Ironically, I had no plans on going into her store, since I already had my dress. However, I was driving from a meeting and ended up passing it. I turned around and went in. I’m so glad that I stopped by. Nancy was has a huge assortment of dresses. They practically fill the entire house. She also has a large assortment of veils and accessories.
Since I was having such an issue with Classy Concepts getting things in. I thought I would see if they had anything that would work to add to my dress. I originally wanted to do a belt with a brooch for my dress. I don’t know how Nancy does it, but she created the most beautiful belt in literally 5 seconds of me standing there. I went to her shop three or four times before deciding on what to get .When I finally settled on what I wanted, we had a little problem with getting my brooch in. I ordered it in January and by April it was still back ordered. We decided on a replacement brooch that she had in stock.
Nancy is a miracle worker. Since my dress was a size to big (THANKS CLASSY CONCEPTS) we were having issues about how the top was fitting. Every strapless bra I purchased showed in the back. That is when Nancy suggested I just go braless. Who knew going braless would have made my dress shrink even more around the bust. The corset was literally touching the other side. I think I had 5 different fitting appointments and each time I went in Nancy took it in even more. Nancy hemmed the dress, added the blue crinoline, added extra boning in the front & back, reinforced the corset , bustled the dress and took in the top of the dress. She was worth every penny!
Two weeks before the wedding while trying on different veils and finalizing my belt, I saw a belt that I hadn’t seen before. I asked if I could try it on. It was it! It was what I was wanting instead of the black belt. It flowed with the dress and in fact it looked like it was part of the dress. I wanted to add something else to it and Nancy suggested a hair fascinator. We ordered the belt, but the company didn’t have the right size. It was two sizes smaller than me. A week later the belt still hadn’t come so literally two days before the wedding Nancy made the belt. She added some different fabric so it would fit and used some French netting accent it. It was perfect!
Nancy was like a fairy godmother throughout this process. She knew exactly what I was feeling and what I wasn’t feeling. She can read a situation so well and know exactly what to say. She focused on how I felt and gave me her honest opinions whenever possible. I don’t think my wedding wouldn’t have been the same without her.

Allie’s Catering – A+
I’d seen Jean and her husband at probably ever bridal show I’ve been too…and that’s a lot. She was always nice and never pushy. I knew I wanted to check her out once I was ready to pick food. I made an appointment with her.
I met her in Irving and we sat and talked about food for quite some time. She gave me a list of menus and prices. Everything was included in the price pp. This meant real plates, real glasses, real silverware, glass salt & pepper shakers, sweeteners, ice tea, water, wait staff, delivery, tax and gratuity. For $20pp we received: fruit and cheese trays, salad with two dressings, beef brisket, lemon pepper chicken, broccoli rice, fresh green beans, and rolls with butter. FI and I had our own private waitress while we ate in a separate area. The reserved tables had their own waitress and all of the other tables were bussed constantly. The food was amazing! Jean cooked on site in the downstairs kitchen. I loved the beef brisket. FI HATES potatoes and when Jean stopped by to check on us, she joked about forgetting them.
We chose to use her staff for our bartender and tipped them out so they wouldn’t have a top jar out. One of the things I would have changed about the bar is that I would have purchased more hard liquor. I made a large batch (120 severing) of amaretto sours and before the cocktail hour was done they were gone. Who knew they would be such a hit? We totally over purchased on the amount of beer we needed. I think we purchased 360 bottles of beer, 36 bottles of wine and four large bottles of amaretto. We came home with 180 bottles of beer 24 bottles of wine and zero bottles of amaretto. I was planning on having a huge party in a few weeks and inviting a lot of people out to drink all the alcohol, but my lovely brother used it for his wedding instead of buying his own.
The only issues I have with Allie’s Catering are that Jean and I had talked about her packing to go boxes of us so we could eat when we got to the hotel. I realized once we got to the hotel they weren’t in the trunk. Also, we weren’t sent home with any of the fruit. There was a ton, but I guess everyone ate it. I just thought that was strange.
However, once the evening was over, the bartender told my father that he had moved all the alcohol so they could pack it in their car. My father is not in the best of health to lug all that alcohol up and down the stairs to the car. So he asked the bartender if he had time to do it for him. Even though they were swamped packing their own things, their bartender did come and help my father load all of the stuff back up in his car. He didn’t have to at all and I thought that was really sweet of him to help out.

YWCA- Fort Worth - A
I had been e-mailing back and forth with Jennifer for months. When I finally went and toured my father said it was too far away. Finally, after a few months of searching more venues, my father finally said yes. I was thrilled and called to pick out a date. My excitement was shot down; because that is when they informed me they were booked for a solid year. However, there were three dates that were on hold but that I needed to call back in the morning to double check. I did and June 5th was open!
After I booked with the YWCA Jennifer left. I loved talking to Jennifer. She was such a great help with all of my many questions. I was very sad when she left. I didn’t even realize they had hired a new coordinator until we received a phone call asking for a piece of information we had forgotten. I really didn’t have any interaction with the new coordinator so I can’t give her a rating.
I didn’t give them an A+ because it got hot really fast in the building and the elevators were soooo slow. It took us forever to pack all of my stuff in the closets. I would totally suggest for anyone wanting to DIY their wedding to use this place.
Keith Long – Love Notes A++
I was referred to Keith by my coordinator. I called him and he got back to me right away. We talked on the phone the first time for about an hour. We talked about everything under the sun. I don’t know why we set up a meeting, because I was ready to sign the contract then. We went ahead and met up with Keith. We signed the contract and figured out everything within the first 10 minutes. We sat and talked for a long time at Starbucks.
At the rehearsal he was great! Showed up early and we were finished up in no time. The day of the wedding he came up and talked to me for a little bit. Everyone commented on how beautiful our ceremony was and was overall very impressed.

JaBel Productions - A+
I went into the Fort Worth Bridal show on a mission. I was going to find a DJ and that is exactly what I did. I instantly liked Jim and Belinda’s personality. They weren’t over hyped and were super sweet. After the show when I came home, I went through everything. I put their information in the contact stack and went to bed.
The next morning I got a call from Jabel Productions saying I was their winner for a half off “Platinum Package” We headed over that evening to talk about everything. When I walked into Jim and Belinda’s house I was blown away. They have a room that is dedicated strictly to their lights and equipment. Jim even did a few examples of announcing and love stories. We LOVED everything but wanted to sleep on it. We ended up signing the contract the next day.
The next time I saw Jim and Belinda it was 2 weeks before my wedding. We spent a little over an hour and went over everything. They made everything super easy!
Four days before the wedding I called Jim to see if I could come by and talk to him about our pre ceremony music and colors. He was more than happy to have me come over and discuss whatever. He even purchased several songs of the VSQ for me.
The wedding day everything went perfectly. When they were setting up in the reception area I saw Jim and went over to talk to him. Everything was beautiful. Belinda unfortunately was ill on our wedding day. Jim brought an assistant who literally went above and beyond. While we were eating in our private area, he stood there and blocked people from interrupting us. He busted a move on the dance floor and really got everyone involved.
The only thing I would change is I would’ve asked him to read our love story before we entered the room. It was a little awkward standing there having 160 people stare at us. Also, the music was a little loud. Overall I was really impressed and can’t wait to use him again if we have another party.

While I think she did an amazing job doing what I hired her for, I don't agree with her statements or actions after the wedding.

I had met with a few florists. Each one of those quoted me outrageous amounts. Flowers weren’t something that really mattered to me. I just wanted it all to look pretty. I didn’t care what flowers were ordered. I just wanted an assortment of flowers. I told her I only wanted to spend $XXX on flowers.
I probably had 6 different meetings with Twanna. I kept changing my mind, because I couldn’t decide on what exactly I wanted. She was always sweet, patient and even pulled some flowers from her back room to give me an idea of the types of flowers that would work for my budget. She understood my vision and style.
Two weeks before my wedding, I stopped by to give her the moss balls and to change my mind once again. I wanted all white flowers instead of varying shades of pinks. She said that it wouldn’t be any problem.
She opened the store so my mom could pick up the flowers on Sunday morning and she even let us borrow the flower containers to hold the flowers until they were put onto the tables. When the flowers arrived I was a little surprised. They were shades of pink and white. I wasn’t upset, just a little surprised. I had changed my mind so many times that I can see where she could have gotten confused. Also, the corsage ribbons were pink. I had selected ivory. It wasn’t really that big of a deal. In the end it worked out and looked better. The colors in the flowers added more visual elements to the tables.

I found them through knottie AmberMarie! I hadn’t planned on having an exit car but after I saw his prices… I changed my tune. At the time of our booking 2 hours was $250. I found this very affordable because every other car company I looked into was going to start out at least $600 and had required time minimums.
I called and Jamie got back to me really fast. In fact, I met up with him that same day and saw the car. It was stunning! He offered to drive us around for a bit, but I was already sold. The only thing I didn’t like about my expierence was that you don’t have a contract. I mentioned this to Jamie and he didn’t think it was a big deal. He said once we paid the deposit it was ours for the time reserved. I guess I had been in wedding mode where EVERYTHING has a contract.
The wedding ended earlier than I would have liked and he wasn’t scheduled for a little bit. So Lauren called them and they arrived early. The driver (whose name I can’t remember right now) was dressed in his formal top hat outfit. He was super sweet and was open to any ideas that we had on driving locations. We drove around and took pictures here and there. He just kept saying how much Jamie was going to love these photos! After Colton left we were going to drive around for a bit, but Matt and I were both exhausted. We ended up going back to the hotel. The only regret I have is that I should have looked into maybe seeing if I could have rented it for just an hour

Classy Concepts Mansfield, TX - C
I had a lot of issues with Sue. When I first found her store I went in to see if I could try on dresses. They said I had to have an appointment. I made an appointment for the next day. I showed up and started trying dresses on. I found a dress I loved and wanted to order it. I asked her who made it and she stated that it was her design. That she went to school for design and that it was her “line” of dresses. She just has a manufacturer make them for her. I was skeptical because she said there wasn’t going to be a label in the dress. So after a little hesitation my mom said just to order it because she loved the dress. Sue said she would even throw in a monogram of FI and I & our wedding date on it inside the dress. So we ordered it and she said it would come in 3 months.
Sue stated that we needed to order a larger size for my wedding dress. I kept telling her I felt that was too big. She mentioned that we could always take it in, but that the bigger size was perfect for my measurements. I kept telling her I didn’t want that size, but her and my mom agreed. I agreed because I was out numbered, I didn’t want to sit there and argue over sizes in the store.
After I purchased my dress she sent me an e-mail saying that I would get discounts on my purchases and that my BM’s would get $20 off each dress. While I was waiting for my dress I stopped by one day to pick out dresses for the BM’s and FG’s. No one was in the store except Sue and her staff. I asked if I could look at dresses and she said I had to make an appointment. So once again I made an appointment for the next day. I went in and she had roughly 4 FG dresses and 10 BM dresses. She handed me a catalog and said I could pick out anything. I really don’t understand why I had to make an appointment when she was just going to hand me a catalog. I picked a few and she put them in my file. I mentioned the discount and she stated that it was up to $20, but that with the dresses I picked out that it would be maybe a $10 discount…a big “Maybe” Since they were only going to be around $125 that it was going to be hard to give me much of a discount, but she would see once all the girls ordered.
Fast forward three months and I didn’t get any phone calls about the dress. I was always the one calling and they informed me that there was a shipping delay. The dress arrived a week and a half late and Sue was never in the store or/and already had appointments for the next three weeks. So, needless to say, I didn’t get to pick up my dress until almost a month after it came in. When I picked up the dress the monogram wasn’t in there. She stated that she would do that at alterations. I wasn’t planning on getting my alterations done by Sue so I just left it at that. It wasn’t worth it to me to sit there and argue. I didn’t want to extend our business relationship any longer than it had to be.
When I picked up my dress I brought along my blue petticoat. Sue was very impressed with my craftiness and thought it turned out great. I know that I am not the first one to put a colored petticoat in my dress. However, while making a quick run to Target the next day. I noticed Sue had a dress with a blue petticoat in the window. It wasn't there the day before and the timing was strange.
The entire time throughout my ordeal with Classy Concepts, I had been asking about a belt or embellishments to add to the dress. Sue kept telling me she had ordered some and they would arrive in a few weeks. Needless to say, I’m still waiting for that shipment to arrive…
While taking my dress to get altered at another place I realized my dress wasn’t ivory, but instead it was diamond white. When I asked Sue about it she explained that different batches of fabric and dyes lots vary the shades. It did match the sample dress, but I don’t know if that was the same dress I tried on or not because at that time 6 months had passed. It didn’t look anything like the one I have pictures of in regards to shade.
I wouldn’t recommend you go to Classy Concepts. I felt like as soon as I paid for my dress that I didn’t really matter anymore. She just saw me as dollar signs. While I understand it is a business, I would like to think that she would value her relationships with customers more than she did.

The Flour Shop Bakery Highland Village, Tx A++
Cara just recently opened up her bakery in Highland Village. When I met with Cara, I originally wanted a two tier cake that had a single embellishment on it such as a flower as well as messy “homemade” frosting. After talking to Cara, I quickly realized my little two tier cake wasn’t going to cut it. She suggested for the amount of people we were going to have that it needed to be four tiers. For the Groom’s cake we went with cupcakes. I told her she could decorate it however she wanted. I liked simple designs and wasn’t really picky with the look of the cake…as long as it tasted good!
At the last minute I realized we didn’t have a cake plateau. Cara found one at the last minute so I wouldn’t have to purchase one.
The cake was beautiful! When I tasted it, I immediately took another bite. It was white chocolate and simply delicious. The cupcakes were triple chocolate which meant they were chocolate cake filled with chocolate mousse and topped chocolate gauche. Everything was so good! Everything I’ve had, I’ve LOVED.
Early on when we were picking flavors I wanted Italian Cream Cake. My mother quickly shot down that idea. Cara suggested that we have Mr. & Mrs. cupcakes. That way we could pick our own flavors if it was different from our cake selection. Let me tell you! I ate the Italian Cream Cake when we got back to the hotel...it was AMAZING!

Embassy Suites Downtown Fort Worth – C
I talked to them about doing group discounts with for the wedding. I signed the paper work and everything I thought was good. It wasn’t until people started emailing me about the rates that I found out there was a problem. They prorated every night except for the wedding night. I called and emailed for a two weeks. I never heard anything back from my sales representative. I finally called the hotel directly and was informed that my sales representative Bridget was on maternity leave. Thanks for letting me know! They sorted everything out after I escalated my concern.
Two weeks before the wedding I realized I needed to book another hotel room for myself. I had missed the block rate cut off date. I called to ask if I could get the block rate as well as a late check out. I was informed that I could do both. That it wouldn’t be an issue at all.
When I checked in, I wanted to make sure about my late check-out time. I was informed that I did not have a late check-out time. Late check-outs are not normally given out and are not a guaranteed. This is when I had had it. I informed her that I was getting married the next day. I had hair and make-up artists coming at 8 a.m. the next day so if I wasn’t getting a late checkout I wasn’t checking in. She said I could have a late check out and that was that. When I got to the room the embassy suites had a super cute hand written note with champagne and champagne flutes.
I figured that since they did that when I checked in that would have done something similar the next night since that was my wedding night since it was going to be in a different room. They didn’t do anything. I would have preferred the champagne the on my wedding night. It would have been a better highlight.
After the wedding, my non-responsive SR e-mailed me and asked how everything was. She apologized for not being there in person to greet me, but she wasn’t able to make it due to the baby. I don’t think I would stay at this ES again. I wasn’t really impressed with their hospitality skills.

Susan Reyes Hair and Make-up artist- A+
I had met Susan only recently. She just started doing my mother’s hair. My mom asked if she would be interested in doing my hair and make-up and she said yes. Little did I know that Susan has worked on several movie sets and commercial shoots over the years. I set up a test run and loved the hair and hated the eye make-up. I talked with her and set up another appointment to re-do the make-up. She nailed it!
She came to the hotel early and set-up. She worked her magic on my hair and then she did my mother’s hair and make-up. We were ahead of schedule by an hour the entire morning of. At one point me were watching movies and just talking. I didn’t want to be totally over done, but looking back I would have gone a little bit darker on my eyes. I was too nervous to go overboard though. I just wanted a natural look and I felt that she delivered exactly what I wanted. She attached my veil and hair feathers flawlessly, which I was thrilled by because I could never get it to look right.
The only thing I would change is that I would have touched up my make up after our reveal and our photos. I was sweating so much. I didn’t know where my make-up bag was and every time I wanted to ask Lauren (DOC) I could never find her. Looking back. I loved how it all turned out. My hair lasted pretty much all day and night.

The Ranch Steakhouse Cedar Hill, TX Rehearsal Dinner – B
I had a few issue in dealing with the RD as many as you know. At the last minute it was on us to find a place to do it. The Ranch house something that we felt was affordable, close and were available on our date.
For $20 pp we had a buffet of several beef, chicken and fish options as well as several vegetables choices. I really thought they would’ve included salad, but for some reason it wasn’t on the buffet. It isn’t a buffet style restaurant. They only offer it on Friday and Sunday nights. On those nights they also have live band downstairs and happy hour in the evening from 8-11.
I liked that we had our own private loft upstairs. It was nice to look down and see everything. The entire space is covered with fine art from the owner’s wife art gallery. I felt that they were totally disorganized when it came to large groups. We had about 20 people and we were constantly getting up getting our own drinks. Several people ordered drinks and never got them. We were supposed to get half off bottles of champagne, but I’m not sure if we did since my dad took care of the tab.
It just didn’t flow to me right. One waiter was amazing and the other wasn’t that great. They were supposed to call and confirm our party and they never did. My mother had to call to confirm. They also didn’t have a live band that night. The food was good and I enjoyed sitting talking to everyone. Just a few little bumps, but overall a good experience.
